Those pink signs are there for a reason.

They're also there  because they speak the truth.

Thousands of pedestrians have gotten injured and died just because they weren't crossing right. Sad thing is, it's such an easy 'accident' to avoid. Think of it this way - how many people have been hit by a car while crossing a pedestrian foot bridge?  NONE.

Moreover, crossing the road in the right places is a sign of discipline. It's saying that a little inconvenience isn't a hinderance for following rules. And as we all know, a small act of discipline and sacrifice goes a long way, especially in a culture such as ours that is in dire need for self-control and discipline.
